Composite _ Summary

The KOSDAQ Composite Index is a market capitalization weighted index of listed companies on the KOSDAQ market and is a Paasche formula stock price index. The index has been calculated and published in real-time since January 3, 1997 with a base index of 1000 set to July 1, 1996.
For reference, the standard units were changed from 100 to 1000 starting January 26.2004 and have since then been calculated as such. Date prior to the change has been made available retroactive to the date of change.

Calculation

  • The KOSDAQ Composite Index (abbreviated as the ‘KOSDAQ Index ’) is calculated as follows with Current Market Capitalization (=market capitalization at the time of comparison) as the numerator and Base Market Capitalization (=market capitalization as of July 1, 1996) as the denominator.

KOSDAQ = (Current Market Capitalization / Base Market Capitalization) * 1000

  • In order to maintain a consistency of the index, when there is a change in the number of listed shares resulting from security offerings with or without capital increase, stock dividend, stock-split, etc., the current market capitalization and base market capitalization are readjusted as a need arises.

Publication

  • KOSPI is updated on the KRX website every 10 seconds and is available in statistical KRX publication “KRX Review” on a daily, monthly, and yearly basis.
